Giving the gift of life helps you to live longer and healthier

You could be the first person to give someone a second chance at life. Blood has been called the river of life because it carries oxygen and nutrients throughout our body. Blood is essential to life, a precious gift that we can share as a volunteer donor. Your blood will help save someone's life and there is no greater way to give of ourselves than to donate blood. Blood isn't everyone's favorite topic. In fact, I would like to share my own experience about a simple act that can literally saves lives.

Did you know that donating blood helps us to live longer and healthier? Scientists found striking evidence that people with more iron in their bodies are at greater risk of heart attacks and the men who donate blood are far less likely to have a heart attack than those who are not blood donors. I was extremely surprised myself to find such a strong relationship between blood donation and protection against heart disease. Giving blood to help others may be prolonging our own lives.

People have many questions about donation. Perhaps you want to be a donor but you're worried about what this involves. Well, I was nervous at my first time, but the medical staff answered all my questions. Donating blood is not painful and is completely safe for us. A small percentage of first time donors may psychologically feel a little dizzy but only for a few minutes. I assure you the procedure is simple, my first blood donation was a happy experience and a feeling of joy and satisfaction. It made me a regular blood donor. Only 350 to 450 ml blood is taken which gets replaced in our body within 24 hours, it is done by skilled specially trained technicians and the whole procedure take just 10 to 15 minutes. They check my blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature and iron levels. We can do it up to three times a year. In fact there are many people who have donated more than 100 times in their life time.

Blood is indeed something special for us, It can't be manufactured, something money can't buy, only something one person can give to another. It isn't every day you can do something to save someone's life. But it can be a common experience, if you give blood to survive illness or injury. Every day, thousands of people need donations to live. You may give a newborn, a child, a mother, a father, a brother, or a sister another chance at life. In fact, you may help save up to three lives with just one donation.

If you're like most people, you have a precious gift that you can keep on giving. Since you can spare it, why not share it…regularly. Your body doesn't mind one way or the other. If you donate, the order goes out to replace what was taken. I would encourage you to encourage your family and friends. After all, you will never know when you or someone you love could use it.

Let’s make a difference in our community by helping others, do something amazing, donate blood and save a life.

I wish you to live longer and healthier

Thank you very much for your precious time and reading.
